In the UK, the Idoma community has grown, with a significant population spread across various regions. They have made notable contributions in areas such as academia, arts, and business, enriching the cultural landscape of their adopted home.
Misunderstandings and conflicts often arise due to a lack of understanding between different communities. In the past, the UK had witnessed violent clashes between black vs white and Hindu vs Muslim communities. By fostering connections and promoting understanding, we can reduce the potential for friction and enhance peaceful coexistence. Organizations such as IDUUK have previously invited members of other Nigerian communities to their annual Dinner events, thereby providing a platform for Idoma and other community members to learn from each other while celebrating diversity and building mutual respect. Cultural awareness campaigns and workshops can further enhance understanding and break down stereotypes.Â
Thirdly, collaborating with local organizations and community centres is essential in creating a supportive environment for the Idoma community.
